Shopping on a budget in California can be accomplished with careful planning. Use cash instead of a debit or credit card to pay for your purchases. Leave your checkbook and debit cards at home. This way you won’t be tempted to buy things outside of your budget. You know you have a certain amount of money to spend and you can’t overspend. Make a list of the things you need and stick to your list. Shopping with husbands and children can distract you and make you buy things you normally wouldn’t buy on your own. Take advantage of the local sales found in grocery store flyers.

Make a list of menus for at least a week in advance. Stay out of the grocery store in between shopping days to avoid impulse spending. Impulse spending is the best way to overspend and spend too much money. Shopping on a budget means you are careful about how you want to spend the money you make. It takes a lot of discipline to stay on a budget, but the rewards are well worth it. You will be able to put the money you save on groceries into your savings account. Savings account keep you from having to use credit cards for emergencies.

California is the fourth largest wine producers in the country. When most people think of wine, they associate it with the regions of northern California, like Napa or Sanoma. There are also some locations in southern California that are just as wonderful to visit to taste some spectacular wines.

San Diego does not just have incredible beaches, but also several wineries in the area. A day trip to the historic town of Julian, just 60 miles from San Diego, will head you in the right direction to discover six wineries in the area. There are also several bed and breakfasts in Julian, so you can indulge and not worry about the ride back.

Next, head north to Los Angeles. Tucked among the stars of the Hollywood hills and surrounding areas there are also some wineries. Malibu doesn’t just have a beautiful beach, but it has two wineries to discover. There are more located in Burbank, Rancho Cucamonga, Laguna Beach, Lancaster and the city of Los Angeles itself.

Then there is Temecula, another beautiful location where hot air balloons fill the horizon around the nearby lake. Sit and take in the beauty as you discover award-winning wines from several area wineries.

California is not just a place for sun worshipers, it has some mighty rugged mountains that provide perfect opportunities for people who love outdoor winter sports such as snowboarding. Most of them are very accessible and the winters bring plenty of snow so they are always able to operate. It does not matter what part of the state you live in, there are snow areas close to you.

One of the most popular ones is located in Northern California and Mt Shasta can be found with snowboarders on the mountain all winter long. Because it is over 14,000 feet, there are plenty of opportunities to snowboard, ski, and just play in the fluffy while stuff. They have miles of excellent trails that are groomed for people of all levels and ages. They also have plenty of things for those who want that extra adrenalin rush.

This is a very affordable resort and about ten miles from I-5. It is easy to get to and there is plenty of lodging at the bottom of the mountain. It draws people from all over the Northern California. Check with the lodge and ask about discounts if you buy your lift tickets ahead of the season.

Surfing is synonymous with California. With hundreds of miles of coastline along the Pacific Ocean it is not difficult to find a place to surf, from San Diego to San Francisco. Some of the best surfing spots are:

Malibu- well known as a residence for the rich and famous, this area is also a surfing mecca. Malibu is home to three extremely popular surf beaches: Zuma, Little Dume, and Surfrider. Surfers have been flocking to the waves in Malibu since the 1920′s.

Huntington Beach- nicknamed “Surf City USA”, Huntington Beach is another surfing spot that has been popular since the 1920′s. The wind patterns here make exceptional waves, so it is no surprise that Huntington Beach is the home of the U.S. surf team.

Santa Cruz- this beach boasts the first historical recording of surfing along the California coast; in 1885 the first waves were surfed by three brothers. The curved shaped of the coastline here gets waves from all directions, making it an excellent surfing spot.

Mavericks- when the weather is just right this surf spot, located near Half Moon Bay in San Francisco, can produce monster waves up to 70 feet high. When this occurs Mavericks becomes an excellent surfing spot, and surfers will travel for miles to catch one of the huge waves.
